AMERICA ON THE MOVE - 2019 PROGRAM
A Look at Transportation Through the Early Years in America

For our 2019 Program Series, we are going the travel back in time to explore the history of transportation in the early United States. We are going to examine the transportation system involving roads, rivers, and railroads which helped form a national economy.

Every advancement in transportation helped to reduce the isolation of areas in the early colonies. Once there were effective, affordable modes of transportation, people were able to move to new areas. From the earliest ships, to the development of the Post Roads and eventually railroads, these advances in transportation allowed agricultural products and manufactured goods to move between farms, towns, and cities.

We will be exploring Post Roads, Steamboats, Trollies, Railroads, and Ferryboats. We will leave it to the members to explore the advancement of cars and planes. This series will help us to appreciate the fact that Americans depend on their transportation system to keep them, and the largest economy in the world, On the Move.
